Wendy Zierler — Lea Goldberg (1911–1970)

Born in Koenigsburg, educated in Kovno, Lithuania, and at the universities of Berlin and Bonn, and active in a wide array of literary, editorial, scholarly and educational activities, Lea Goldberg was arguably the first Hebrew woman poet to achieve canonical status in Hebrew letters.

In The third part of the online series “Sorrow Song” Prof. Wendy Zierler will delve into a range of poems by Goldberg with a special focus on those poems that responded to the dislocations of war and immigration and that serve as new commentaries on classical Hebrew sources.
