Naomi Shemer (1930–2004)
Zoom class with Prof. Wendy Zierler
Considered the “first lady of Israeli song and poetry,” Naomi Shemer was born and raised on Kvutsat Kinneret, and documented through song the central sites and experiences of modern Zionism.
This concluding session will survey her most liturgically and biblically resonant songs, including those of the 1967 and ’73 wars, several of which have taken on the status of modern Zionist prayers.
